Coding together

A colleague once told me it was a wonderful experience for him to share a pair programming session instead of writing code and submitting a pull request afterwards.

He said in under 3 hours he got done with a task that initially seemed very difficult.

He also didn't need a long PR review process with multiple Q/A cycles to both be confident about the change – because he collaborated all the way through its design and implementation.

From our experience, the easiest way to share a pair programming session was to use VS Code with an extension called Live Share.

We confirmed it working on our local machines.

We had problems sharing sessions from remote dev machines – such sessions were only joinable from a Web browser and not a standalone VS Code app.
